Servco Pacific Inc. (Servco) is celebrating its centennial by bringing back its iconic Toyota Sport Bag, releasing a limited-edition design of the vintage duffel with a few modern additions. The commemorative bags will be available for purchase at all Servco dealerships and also come as a mahalo gift with every new Toyota vehicle sold by Servco in 2019, while supplies last.
The Toyota Sport Bag dates back to the 1960s, when second-generation Servco president, Tom Fukunaga, saw children from Palama Settlement carrying their baseball gear to games in their arms. He created a program to provide free athletic bags to youth sports teams, and from the 1960s to the 1990s, Servco gave away tens of thousands of bags per year to young athletes across Hawaii. As a nod to the bag’s history, Servco will donate all profits from the sale of each bag to Palama Settlement on Oahu, and Big Brothers Big Sisters on the Neighbor Islands.
The bags feature a red, white, and blue pebble grain vinyl body, Toyota logo, and Servco’s centennial logo. The “Start Your Impossible” tagline on the bag references Toyota’s global campaign supporting the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees.
“The Toyota sport bag program was born from Servco’s desire to support and empower youth athletes across the state,” said Rick Ching, president and COO of Servco Pacific. “The phrase ‘Start Your Impossible,’ which can be found on each bag, not only celebrates Toyota’s eight-year worldwide partnership with the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees, but it also demonstrates Toyota and Servco’s commitment to support a more inclusive and sustainable society. Giving back through the Toyota sport bag program is a special reminder of our history and commitment to the Hawaii community.”
