With more families in need of food assistance, Aloha Harvest came to the rescue by quickly sourcing fresh local food, including cabbage, onions, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and beef for distribution this past weekend.
All of these goods, including rice and canned goods were packed tightly into reusable Foodland bags by 14 Servco team members, who accomplished 1,000 completed food bags in a little over three hours at the Y. Fukunaga Products warehouse in Halawa Valley.
To help the families utilize the local food in creative ways, an added surprise in the bag included several recipes from Chef Mark Noguchi, who is part of Chef Hui, a network of food industry professionals, helping organizations like Aloha Harvest to ramp up with the increased demand with sourcing, sorting, storing and distributing. The 1,000 bags were distributed by City and County employees to families on Sunday in Waipio.
