HONOLULU – On Nov. 8, Servco Pacific Inc. (Servco) donated two Toyota Prius vehicles to Waipahu High School and James Campbell High School to support Hawaiʻi’s youth through hands-on learning opportunities.

“There’s no better way to develop skills and explore career pathways than through hands-on experience, especially for automotive technicians,” said Whit Michel, Vice President and Director of Servco’s Quality Division. “We’re happy to support local schools that help prepare the next generation of automotive industry workers.”

Waipahu High School’s Automotive Maintenance & Light Repair Pathway and James Campbell High School’s Automotive Technology Pathway are designed to teach the fundamentals of automotive electrical and mechanical systems, in addition to vehicle inspection and repairs.

Students learned about the evolving industry and role of automotive technicians through demonstrations of alternative fuel vehicles, including the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai, hybrid-electric Toyota Prius, and fully electric Toyota bZ4X.

“One of our goals is providing hands-on opportunities and experiences for our students,” said James Curran, Automotive Instructor at Campbell High School. “Servco has become one of our biggest supporters and this vehicle donation will add value to our students’ learning as we transition into alternative energy.”

In addition to supporting high school automotive programs, Servco offers an Automotive Technician Internship Program every summer. The eight-week program provides high school juniors and seniors with hands-on experience and the opportunity to explore automotive careers at Servco.
