HONOLULU – As part of its $1.5 million Centennial Service Campaign in 2019, the Servco Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Servco Pacific Inc. (Servco), selected 19 local nonprofits to receive $20,000 grants. The odd number is a tie to 2019, $20,000 to 19 nonprofits, in a nod to the company’s centennial year.
From June 1 through July 14, nominations were open to the public and included a 150-word narrative by the nominator explaining why an eligible nonprofit should receive a grant or how the nonprofit has impacted his/her life. Eligible nominees had to be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Hawaii and serving the local community.
“Servco was founded on the idea of service and we hope these grants will enable others to perpetuate service within their own causes” said Peter Hirano, executive director of the Servco Foundation. “We are excited to see these grants go toward the local community that has supported us for the past 100 years.”
The Servco Foundation received almost 5,000 nominations representing over 550 different organizations across the state. The Foundation selected five nonprofits on Oahu, four nonprofits on the Big Island, three nonprofits on Maui, three nonprofits on Kauai, and four statewide nonprofits.
The chosen organizations, as well as the individual who nominated them, were invited to a ceremony at the Hawaii State Capitol to receive their grant, meet with Servco Foundation representatives and celebrate Servco’s Centennial Service Campaign.
